Your gown

Personalised gowns

Many gowns are personalised with bra cups, beads, diamonte, feathers – this then renders the cleaning instructions worthless as the trimmings may not be dry cleanable in the same cleaning solvent/ conditions as the basic gown – be sure to highlight these additions to us. We always remove beads and trimmings and test prior to cleaning.

Crystal and glass beaded dresses

Crystal and glass beaded dresses are some of the most challenging to clean.

They are becoming more and more popular and more and more elaborate.

Many modern collections have large heavy areas of glass work attached to the finest silks and chiffons.

There will always be a risk in dry cleaning what are essentially pieces of cut glass. The glass work can chip or break resulting in cut threads, pulls and catches on chiffons, silks and organzas.

We always test all beads prior to cleaning by removing individual beads.

Beads can be lost during normal wear and tear, to minimise loss of beads from sections of lose threads or missing sections, we tie off or sew down threads to prevent possible further loss.

Veils – we do not recommend the dry cleaning of veils unless there is a specific mark or stain which needs removing.

Hair combs and alice bands should be removed before cleaning as they are easily broken and can be dissolved in solvents.

Combs and bands attached with artificial flowers are frequently attached with glue. Dry Cleaning is not recommended as they may disintegrate.

Shoes – unfortunately these should be treated as disposable items. They rarely clean successfully.
